Week 1
1. Slaves in Gloucester County, Va. Staged one of the first documented slave rebellions on Sept 13, 1663.
2. Lewis Howard Latimer, inventor, electrical engineer , and draftsman, patented the incandescent electric lamp on Sept 13 1881 patent# 247,097.
3. Cater G. Woodson created black history month.
4. Africa was called the “Dark Continent”.
5. A majority of the black slaves were from WEST AFRICA.
6. Slavery in North America was called “Peculiar institution of slavery.
7. HAITI defeated the French to become the first independent Black Nation from slavery. Shirley Chisholm was the first black person to run for president.
8. Nathaniel Alexander of Lynchburg, Virginia patented a folding chair.
9. The black flag or Pam African Flag Colors. Black represents the people of Africa. Red stands for the blood of the people that was shed. Gold is for the gold that was stolen from them. Green is for the land of Africa.
