1- Al Sharpton- Social and political activist, religious leader. Born Alfred Charles Sharpton Jr Oct.3,1954 in Brooklyn, New York.2
2- Kweisi Mfume- Former President and C E O of the National Association for the advancement of Colored People.
3- Berry Gordy –Entrepreneur. Gordy founded the Motown Record Corporation in 1959. The most successful black- owned music company in the United States,where he developed the careers of many greats performers of the 1960’s and 70’s, including Diana Ross and the Supremes, and Michael Jackson.

2- High point of the Civil rights movement was 1963. March on WASHINGTON for jobs and freedom which brought more than250,000 marchers to the grounds of the Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall in Washington D.C . to speech out for an end to Southem racial violence and police brutality, equal opportunity in employment, equal access in education and public accommodations.
3- Voting rights act 1965.
4- Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson ran for DEMOCRATIC Party’s presidential nomination in 1984 and 1988.
5- Barack Obama first black president. He is 44th president of the United States on Nov.4,2008 and inaugurated on Jan. 20,2009.

4. Dr. Mae Jenison-First black women astronaut to launch into space, in 1992.
5. Simmie Knox- First African- American to paint an official presidential portrait [ Bill Clinton].
6. Condoleezza Rice – First black women Secretary of State, in 2005.
7. Carl Stokes- First black Mayor of a major American City, in 1967 (Cleveland ).
